Trellis Privacy Policy

Trellis is a garden companion service operated by Molbak's Garden + Home ("Molbak's," "we," "us"), based in Woodinville, Washington. This policy explains what information we collect when you use Trellis, why we collect it, and the choices you have.
What we collect
Account information. When you create an account we collect your name, email address, and a password. Passwords are handled by our authentication provider (Amazon Cognito) and are stored only in securely hashed form — we never see or store your actual password.
Your garden. The heart of Trellis is the information you choose to give it: photos of your garden and plants, the names you give your spaces and locations, notes, tasks, care plans, and your conversations with the Trellis assistant. Location names and ZIP codes you provide are used to show local weather and nearby store suggestions.
Payment information. Subscriptions are processed by Stripe. Your card number goes directly to Stripe and never touches our servers. We store only your subscription status and Stripe's reference identifiers.
Usage information. We log how the service is used — including the computing resources (AI tokens) each account consumes — to operate the service, prevent abuse, and understand costs. We also collect standard technical logs (IP address, browser type, timestamps) for security and troubleshooting.
How we use your information
We use your information to run Trellis: to identify your plants, build care plans, remember your garden between visits, send you the weekly garden email you signed up for, process your subscription, and keep the service secure. Staff may attach internal notes to an account for customer-support purposes.
AI processing. When you chat with Trellis or send it a photo, that message and photo are sent to our AI service providers to generate the response. We send only what is needed to answer you. Our agreements with these providers do not permit them to use your content to train their models.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it with advertisers. We share it only with the service providers who run Trellis on our behalf (hosting, authentication, payments, email delivery, AI responses), each bound to use it only to provide their service to us.
We send transactional email (account verification, password resets, billing notices) and the weekly Trellis garden email. You can turn off the weekly email at any time from your account settings or the unsubscribe link in the email itself. Transactional email cannot be turned off while you hold an account.
Where your data lives and how it's protected
Your data is stored on Amazon Web Services in the United States. All connections to Trellis are encrypted (HTTPS/TLS), data is encrypted at rest, and access to production systems is limited to authorized personnel. No system is perfectly secure, but we follow industry-standard practices and will notify you as required by law if a breach affects your information.
Retention and deletion
We keep your information for as long as your account exists. You may delete individual photos, spaces, or conversations at any time from within the app. If you delete your account (or ask us to at the address below), we delete your personal information within 30 days, except records we must keep for legal, billing-dispute, or security purposes.
Your choices and rights
You can access, correct, export, or delete your information from within the app or by emailing us. Washington residents and residents of states with consumer-privacy statutes may have additional rights (access, deletion, portability, non-discrimination); we honor such requests regardless of your state.
Children
Trellis is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes
If we make material changes to this policy we will notify you by email or in-app notice before the change takes effect.
